Came back with friends! But unfortunately service wasn't as good this time which dampened the experience. Food was still really good!
When I got the eel and avocado roll to go they didn't include any eel sauce drizzled on top. I was surprised by that. I did pay for a small side of it. And that worked. The food is great here
One of my favorite restaurants. I've been here a few times for lunch and dinner and this place is just consistently delicious. We ordered the Salmon Ceviche, Idako Karaage, Yellowtail Sashimi, Tomorokoshi Tonkatsu (special), Mentai Pasta, and the AKA Roll. The sashimi is fresh and the idako is crispy--perfect for appetizers. The tonkatsu was thick and sooo juicy, it was amazing!! The mentai pasta was super creamy and tasty, which paired really well with the bacon. The AKA roll was also very good and it came with 8 pieces. We also ordered some cocktails and highballs which were pretty good as well.
100000/10 The negichutoro don was the best thing I've had almost ever. It was comparable to the toro dishes I've had in Japan, which is very high praise! Very fresh and absolutely delicious. Not only the fish, but the rice is also perfection. This will be my reorder next time. My favorite thing I tried here so far. The salmon katsu. THE SALMON KATSU!!!! Never had anything like this. The raw salmon is very nice and you also get the crisp breading on the edge. It comes with ikura to pour over (I don't like ikura so I didn't), a jammy egg in tartar sauce (was interesting and alright), and this sweet/sour/salty black sauce (jackpot -- this was so good). I would get this again, especially with someone who has not had it before. Probably would not have one all of myself the way I did this time though The steamed egg had ikura and uni in it. I'm not a big fan of ikura and I wasn't the biggest fan of the warm texture (steamed egg- the top felt like raw egg whites almost?) mixed with the taste of the sea. However, my cousin liked it. Probably would not order this one again. NOTE TO SELF: GEM FOOD - would come again and recommend 100000%. A full sized don would fill me up with room to spare for a shared salmon katsu.
Nice atmosphere and very attentive service. My water was always filled throughout my time there. The food was enjoyable, i got the sake set which is seasonal, and the mentai fried rice. I really liked the small egg salad that my set came with. My friend got a chefs choice sushi Don bowl and enjoyed the fish that was served
This place need to get more recognition because it is SO good!! Came for the summer special and I wish they would keep everything permanently, especially the Sake Katsu Set ): It just melts in your mouth and is HUGE and so flavorful! Kaishin Don is a MUST if you come here. There is a good amount of rice under all the toppings, which is a generous portion, and the rice is seasoned well. Staff is very friendly, all the dishes are pretty good portion sizes and delicious, and the interior is beautiful! They have more seating in the back with lights and more patio vibes, which is really pretty. Really wish this place was closer to my place because I would be a regular here!
This hidden gem is a cozy izakaya and sushi bar with fresh, high-quality, and affordable fish Every bite was pure magic! We indulged in the Kaishin Don (uni, toro, & ikura perfection), a 10-piece sushi set, and the spring special Kani Miso set prepared right in front of us--such a cool experience! The shoyu tonkatsu ramen was so good , and the rich broth had me wanting more . Dessert? Oshiruko, of course! Matcha ice cream, red bean sauce, and toasted mochi... I'm still dreaming about it From the stunning presentation to the warm and welcoming staff, Ozakaya is easily one of my new favorite spots in NYC. Can't wait to come back for more soon! We ordered: -Takoyaki -Oshiruko -Sake katsu set -Kaishin don -10 pcs sushi -Shoyu Tonkatsu ramen -Kani miso set -Matcha coco -Yuzu lemonade Follow @spinx17 for more NYC food recs!
We got the Kaishin Don Special, kani miso set, takoyaki, chutoro tataki, ozakaya roll, and mentai pasta. Overall, they have great cuts of fish and everything was delicious. I loved the kaishin don, which contained medium fatty tuna, uni, and ikura. The kani miso set was also very good and is one of their seasonal specials. The chutoro tataki was so fresh and seasoned well. Takoyaki was another favorite and came out piping hot. Personally, I wasn't a fan of the ozakaya roll; however, my friend really liked it and even stated it was his favorite dish. The mentai pasta was so cream and was perfect with the crispy bacon bits. They have a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. We came early so we didn't have to wait but I would make a reservation if you come during prime dinner hours since there was a line outside when we left.
I ordered the Anaconda roll and the spicy salmon roll. I came for lunch just due to my schedule. Restaurant isn't large inside but they have outside seating, it was a nice day but I had a lunch date with my couch so that's where I was heading with my food. :) I peeped the Anaconda roll from prior Yelp reviews so I knew that's what i wanted to eat. Not sure if I was hungry but I ate everything in one sitting and it was delicious. Only thing I wish they had was crispy rice dish/option.
(Overall: A) - This Brooklyn-based restaurant in Prospect Heights is a very high class Japanese establishment with upscale ingredients and offers a fantastic quality of food. Their staff are attentive and friendly and match the quality of food, and the ambience is quite nice with hanging metallic fish decor being particularly notable. Their menu is full of intriguing options that match the Instagram reels, and would be very excited to return. (Kaishin Don: A) - A beautiful bowl of the most prized Japanese seafood on top of rice. Their sea urchin is pretty fresh considering it is currently in summer; further, the ikura is properly seasoned with saline in a way thats not oversalted. Also loved the fresh wasabi root paired with this dish to speak to the high quality. -- Food: +1 Presentation: +1 Price: E Atmosphere: +1 Service: +1 Menu: +1 Overall: +5 A Insta/Beli: @amei_eats
